It’s good to disconnect for a while and get yourself back together.”
If you have a little money to spare, you can get away to a local hotel even just for the weekend. It will mean packing as if going further away. Don’t forget your swimsuit and poolside accessories. Take along a book for easy reading.
If you’d rather save the hotel expenses, you can just tour your locality like a tourist. Take a second look at sites you may have been taking for granted. Visit local museums, parks, old and new eating places. Take photos with a new angle.
Take long walks. This does not cost anything. The exercise will do your body good. It triggers the release of endorphins in the body, making you feel good immediately. The fresh air will also clear your mind.
There’s a saying, “Take time to smell the flowers.” You can do this in parks. You may also buy some inexpensive flowers to take home. They will brighten up your space. You can even give your home a spa-like ambience by scattering around flowers and greens.
Staying home can feel like being on vacation, too. Consider it your sanctuary; a haven for rest and relaxation. Perhaps you can quiet down and keep a journal in lieu of a blog. This time it’s unplugged and totally private. If you run out of words, turn the page into a visual journal and sketch, paint or make a collage from magazine clippings.
A long soak in a warm bath with aromatherapy oils is another option. Scatter petals on your bath water for a luxurious feel.
Then you can meditate. It’s a good way to calm the mind and turn off all the mental noise in your head. You do not even have to follow a formal meditation technique. Just breathing deeply and consciously from the diaphragm while seated or lying in a comfortable position will be a start. It will help to be in a dimly lit and quiet room with soothing music in the background.
Then again, we go back to massage.
