Am I on the right path?
My name is Ben and i play in a travel league in my state. Im 13 Y/O and suppose to be around 5 9 fully grown. Every league im in, they rank me as the top 2nd basemen. I can play outfield but mostly a corner infielder. I have a GREAT glove ( so i been told ) I came back the day after i got my cast off on my throwing arm ( broke it ) And made a spectacular diving catch which broke my arm again.I can still throw the ball good for having broken my throwing arm twice. I can hit the gaps and find holes pretty easy but i still need to have a lot of work done on my swing.I usually bat around .350 to .370.I walk alot of the time because of my current height (4 8 still have alot of time to grow) I follow baseball night and day. Ive already having the high school coach coming to me telling me he wants me on the team as a freshman. I want to go to texas or North Carolina for baseball. Will i get scouted there, if i go? btw my fav team is the CHI TOWN CUBBIES (if that matters hahah)
A couple of things I'll tell you, rather than simply blowing smoke up your butt and telling you how great you are just to give your ego (which all ready seems to be a bit out of control) a boost.
First - there is no way anyway can tell what kind of a ballplayer you will be at age 18. Particularly a bunch of complete strangers who have never seen you play.
Second - any coach that would allow a 13 year old to play the day after getting a cast off of a broken throwing arm should be taken out and severely beaten. As should the parents of that player.
Third - if you are the "top second baseman", why are you
mostly a corner infielder"? Is it that your coach is too stupid to use you where you are so good, or is it that you don't know what a corner infielder is?
Fourth - when asking a question like this, try to make at least an attempt to use proper English. That would include the proper use of capitalization and punctuation. To be honest, when I see a 13 year old who either doesn't know that the pronoun "I" should be capitalized, or that 5 foot nine inches should be typed as 5' 9", I assume that child is either way behind in his English skills, or is just too lazy to take the time to do it right. And while you may be a hard worker, and maybe a very intelligent kid, the perception very often might be that if you take shortcuts when asking something that appears to be very important to you, you will also take shortcuts in other aspects of your life - be it your school work, a part time job, and even your baseball career.
Finally - a bit of advice that is definitely worth remembering. You are 13 years old. You are WAY too young to worry about whether or not you will play college ball, let alone make the majors. Concentrate on being the best 13 year old player you can be. When you get into high school, focus on being the best high school p[layer you can be. Go ahead and give it your best, but don't do it looking for the reward that comes to an incredibly small percentage of players. Play the game for fun. Work hard, but keep it all in perspective. Your most important job at 13 years old should be being a 13 year old. And make sure you keep your grades up. All of the baseball ability in the world won't me a thing if you can't stay academically eligible.
